Punk Rock Yoga--Brian Williams

Brian Williams

New York, NY, US

Bio

Brian Williams started practicing yoga after a knee injury forced him togo to physical therapy. With the help of a couple of “Power Yoga” videos, Brian learned that yoga could be powerful—aiding him to focus, quiet the mind, and heal and strengthen the body.

After moving to NYC, Brian began taking class with Sadie Nardini, and after practicing with her for several years, was inspired to begin his teaching career. He has taught yoga since 2005, in every conceivable environment from a bar to a gritty East Village theater to an open air palapa by the beach in Costa Rica to several NYC studios, and is currently working on bringing a weekly, indie class back, as well as a teacher training program.

Brian believes yoga doesn’t require much of you other than fierce focus, a willingness to be right where you are, and desire to practice. There is some aspect of a yoga practice that’s right for everyone, and Brian believes his job is to find out where you are, meet you there, and show you how to create your own moving meditation.

In Brian’s class, you’ll move, breathe, challenge yourself, laugh, and sweat. His musical tastes are all over the map, from punk to classic rock, alternative, grunge, and pop. Brian loves creating playlists for his classes that tell a story, create a mood, and keep you energized and focused.

When not teaching yoga, Brian runs his own small theater company, and just finished writing his first YA novel.
